SEC Engages Ondo Finance in Talks Over Wrapped Securities and Crypto Compliance

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) continues to explore potential regulatory pathways for digital assets, as its crypto-focused task force, led by Commissioner Hester Peirce, engages with key industry stakeholders.

In a notice dated April 24, the agency revealed a meeting with representatives from Ondo Finance and the law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell, centered on the issuance and sale of tokenized versions of publicly traded U.S. securities.

The discussion highlighted growing industry interest in wrapping traditional financial products into blockchain-based tokens, potentially transforming market accessibility and liquidity. Ondo Finance, a firm known for developing tokenized financial instruments, reportedly aimed to address SEC registration requirements, compliance considerations, and the feasibility of launching a regulatory sandbox.

The meeting adds further visibility to Ondo Finance, a company that has previously garnered attention for its $1 million donation to former President Donald Trump’s inauguration fund. Meanwhile, Davis Polk—also present at the meeting—recently disclosed its representation of Trump’s media platform, Truth Social, in efforts to roll out crypto-linked exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

While the SEC has not yet made formal policy changes regarding tokenized securities, its ongoing dialogues with crypto firms suggest a more engaged regulatory posture. The agency’s willingness to explore frameworks such as sandboxes—temporary, flexible regulatory environments—could signal a shift toward more collaborative approaches in overseeing blockchain-based financial innovation.

Ondo Finance has not issued a public statement regarding the meeting, and inquiries for comment have not been returned as of publication.
