UAE PASS Adds Avalanche to Verify Official Documents

UAE PASS is adding a way to check official documents

UAE PASS is the UAE’s national digital-identity service. Citizens, residents and visitors can use it to prove who they are, sign documents and access online government and private-sector services.

Avalanche announced on X that the UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) is working with Deca4 to integrate Avalanche technology into the UAE PASS Digital Vault. Avalanche says the Vault serves more than 12 million people and will help users access and share verified official documents.

The announcement came from Avalanche. TDRA and Deca4 had not published separate technical details at the time of writing.

For example, a resident could share an official document with a bank, employer or government office through UAE PASS. The receiving organisation could then check that the file came from the proper source and has not been changed since it was issued.

What Avalanche would do, and what has not been disclosed

Avalanche says blockchain will be used to check a document’s authenticity and detect changes. It does not say that passports, identity cards or full government documents will be stored on a public blockchain.

Think of the system as a tamper-evident seal on a digital file. The document can remain private. When it is shared, the receiving organisation compares it with the record created when the document was issued. A changed file should fail that check because it no longer matches the original record.

Avalanche and the UAE participants have not said exactly how the system will be built. They have not announced a launch date, named the first documents to be supported or explained how the service will handle personal information.

Why governments may use blockchain to check records

Governments already hold the official version of documents such as vehicle titles, land records and certificates. Problems arise when another agency, company or person receives a copy and needs to know whether it is genuine. A verification system can give the recipient a way to check the document’s origin and whether it has been changed.

Avalanche has described a California DMV project to digitise 42 million vehicle titles on an Avalanche blockchain as part of title-transfer modernisation. The company has also highlighted Balcony’s agreement with Bergen County, New Jersey, to digitise and tokenize records for more than 370,000 land parcels.

Neither project is a digital-identity system, and neither is a direct model for UAE PASS. They show a related use: applying a blockchain record to documents where provenance and later checks matter.

The same approach can work outside government services

Document verification is one example of a broader need: organisations often require a secure record of who can access a system, what they are allowed to do and whether a transaction followed the agreed rules.

In July, Hyundai Card tested stablecoin treasury rails on Avalanche for a transfer between two group affiliates. The pilot concerned corporate payments rather than digital identity, but it used the same basic idea: approved participants operate within defined compliance and access rules, while the blockchain keeps a verifiable record in the background.

What UAE PASS users would actually notice

Users should not need to know which blockchain verifies a document. They need a shared document to work when a bank, employer or public office requests proof, and they need the check to protect the document without exposing more personal information.

The announcement gives Avalanche a possible role inside a service people already use. Its value will depend on whether the integration reduces disputes over document authenticity without asking users to learn a new system or give up control of their data.
