Circle Shares Surge 230% in Volatile NYSE Debut, Triggering Trading Halts

Circle (CRCL) made a stunning entrance on the New York Stock Exchange on June 5, with its shares more than tripling within minutes of trading.
The stock surged to a peak of $103.75, soaring 234% above its $31 IPO price, prompting multiple volatility halts under the NYSE’s limit-up/limit-down mechanism.
The IPO raised over $1 billion, with 34 million shares sold. Circle itself issued 14.8 million shares, while CEO Jeremy Allaire and other early backers sold 19.2 million.
The sharp price action reflects intense investor demand, likely fueled by Circle’s central role in the digital asset space, including its management of the USDC stablecoin.
However, the rapid ascent also underscores the market’s heightened volatility around crypto-related listings.
Trading eventually stabilized, but the opening session marked one of the most explosive public debuts of 2025 so far.
