The Ultimate Samourai Wallet Review | 2019 Guide

Source: samouraiwallet.com

When it comes to choosing a Bitcoin wallet, it’s safe to say that Bitcoin holders are blessed with the largest number of options.

Without a doubt, there are numerous renowned and impressive Bitcoin wallets out there, but in this sea of software that tends to be very similar (both in term of functionality and looks), there’s one Bitcoin wallet that stands out from the crowd due to its privacy-centric features. That wallet goes by the name of Samourai Wallet.

What is Samourai Wallet?

Samourai wallet is one the most popular mobile Bitcoin wallets currently on the market and arguably the most secure and privacy-centric wallet of its sort. What makes Samourai wallet special is the fact that it has been specifically designed to make up for what Bitcoin lacks in terms of both privacy and anonymity.

The wallet is the product of a very passionate team and is marketed as being the “software that Silicon Valley will never build, the regulators will never allow.” Currently, the wallet is online available for Android devices, but an iOS version is in development.

Samourai Wallet Features

Right from the bat, it’s worth noting that there are a staggering amount of features that make Samourai be such a highly praised product within the Bitcoin sphere.

As mentioned before, the wallet is extremely focused on privacy and security. For starters, it’s important to note that the wallet employs the latest and best industry security standards such as AES-256 encryption (on the client’s side) and BIP23, BIP44, and BIP49 (on the wallet infrastructure side).

Furthermore, Samourai wallet is one of earliest mobile wallets to incorporate SegWit. Another noteworthy feature is the strong protection for address reuse. To be more precise, Samourai is, in fact, an HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) wallet that never reuses a Bitcoin address. Clustering analysis protection via a mechanism called STONEWALL is yet another great feature of Samourai wallet. This feature ensures that the wallet does not leave trails of metadata which blockchain surveillance protocols can track. It increases the difficulty of linking inputs to outputs of a transaction.

However, for most users, the most impressive feature of Samourai is the fact that it is Tor and VPN-enabled. This allows users to “hide” transactions and enjoy the privacy feature in the wallet itself. Another great feature is the “Stealth” feature which allows the wallet’s shortcut (or icon) to completely disappear from mobile devices’ desktops. Furthermore, users can also remotely clean swipe the mobile device entirely, a feature which comes in handy if one happens to lose his or her mobile phone.

PaymentNyms is the wallet’s capability that allows users to send and receive Bitcoin anonymously with a publicly shareable code (QR code).

Supported Currencies

As mentioned at the start of this article, Samourai is a Bitcoin-only wallet. However, it supports most of the popular fiat currencies out there, meaning that users can see the amount of BTC sent or received in most native currencies.

Fees

The wallet has been specifically designed to offer the most appropriate suggestion when it comes to fees. It’s worth noting that custom fees can also be set by advanced users. The wallet also supports a feature called “Replace by Fee” (RBF). This unique feature allows a fee that’s set too low to be confirmed or even raised until it meets the requirements. For example, users can select low, normal, or priority fee model in order to get their transaction verified under 60, 30, or 0-1 blocks.

Customer Support

Unlike most wallet support teams, the one behind Samourai wallet is renowned for being one of the best. Users can contact customers support via requests, or check out the detailed knowledge bank for FAQs.

Verdict

Not only does the Samourai wallet is one of the most secure and privacy-oriented wallets, but it’s also one of the most user-friendly and feature-packed ones. The wallet has a very good reputation within the cryptosphere which should ultimately provide its users with a high level of confidence.
