The Bitcoin hype has grabbed worldwide headlines and cryptocurrency markets in the last few years. Bitcoin has seen a surge of 1,824%, hitting its all-time high, just short of $20,000. Its price might have dropped, but it’s still very used.
This has fuelled the interest of many people, and, with its expansion, a lot of markets have been adjusting to adopt this cryptocurrency. You can basically use Bitcoin to buy or pay for anything these days, even book a hotel room almost anywhere in the world and pay for it with your crypto assets.
Seeing as many bitcoiners like to travel, the travelling and hotel industry are making available more options to purchase their offered services without the customer needing to convert bitcoin to fiat.
More and more hotel and travelling companies are starting (or already have) integrated into the payment options for customers at check-out, alongside payment methods such as PayPal and Visa.
First things first, you first need to find out which services offer the option to book and pay with the digital coin. Below is a list that has a few names of companies that accept bitcoin for accommodations:
- Expedia, an American travel company, which accepts Bitcoin for hotel bookings and when paying for hotel rooms. The payments are made by using the Coinbase platform, and the procedure is pretty upfront.
- Travel agencies CheapAir and Destinia also take Bitcoin payments for hotel bookings.
- Gyft.com is a digital gift card platform that allows you to buy gift cards in Bitcoin to Hotels.com, which lets you book at more than 150,000 hotels.
- 9flats.com, Airbnb’s European counterpart which is based in Berlin, accepts Bitcoin payments for renting homes for short term.
