Trump May Slash China Tariffs by 50% to Ease Trade War

In a potential move to ease trade tensions, the Trump administration is reportedly considering slashing tariffs on Chinese imports by as much as 50%, according to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal.
Although President Trump has yet to make a final decision” sources informed the Wall Street Journal that multiple options are being considered.
One such proposal includes implementing a system of graduated tariffs, with reduced duties of approximately 35% on non-essential goods, while levying higher rates — potentially as much as 100% — on items identified as crucial to U.S. national security. Presently, tariffs on China range as high as 145%.
The proposed cuts aim to de-escalate the ongoing economic standoff with Beijing, which has rattled global markets and disrupted supply chains. While details remain under discussion, the move could signal a shift toward diplomacy after years of tariff-driven pressure on Chinese goods.
If implemented, the rollback would mark one of the biggest policy reversals in Trump’s trade war strategy since its launch during his first term.
