Trump Hints at New Fed Chair, Wants Lower Interest Rates

President Donald Trump told reporters Friday that an announcement on the next Federal Reserve Chair is expected "very soon," emphasizing that a strong candidate would be one who lowers interest rates.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump highlighted the urgency of a policy shift, stating, “It’s coming out very soon.” When asked specifically about Kevin Warsh, a former Fed governor and vocal advocate for looser monetary policy, Trump remarked that Warsh is “very highly thought of,” fueling speculation that he may be the leading contender for the post.

The remarks follow a recent face-to-face meeting between Trump and current Fed Chair Jerome Powell, where Trump reportedly told Powell he was making a “mistake” by keeping rates elevated.

Trump has long criticized the Fed’s cautious stance on interest rates, arguing that lower rates are essential to boost U.S. growth and stay competitive in the global economy. His comments reinforce the view that monetary policy will play a central role in his second-term agenda.

With global markets watching closely, a formal announcement could influence not only investor sentiment but also the direction of the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields in the coming days.
