Trump Confirms Productive Call With Xi, Delegations Set to Meet Soon

President Donald Trump confirmed a productive phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, describing the exchange as a “very good” step forward in solidifying the trade agreement recently struck between the two nations.

The conversation, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, focused extensively on the details of the bilateral trade deal, including the complex issue of rare earth materials. Trump stated that following this discussion, there should be “no longer any questions” regarding the treatment and understanding of rare earth product trade between the two countries.

In a move to maintain momentum, both governments agreed to send high-level delegations to continue talks in person. The U.S. side will be represented by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer. The meeting location will be announced at a later date.

President Xi also extended an invitation to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to visit China—an invitation Trump said he graciously accepted. “As Presidents of two Great Nations, this is something that we both look forward to doing,” Trump noted.

The former president emphasized that the entire conversation was focused “almost entirely on trade,” with no discussion of matters related to Russia, Ukraine, or Iran.

Media outlets will be informed once scheduling and location details for the upcoming meeting are finalized.
