Trump Announces U.S. to Set New Tariff Rates in Coming Weeks

Former President Donald Trump has declared that the United States will unilaterally set new import tariffs for a broad range of countries within the next two to three weeks.

Speaking during his Middle East tour, Trump said 150 countries are seeking trade deals with the U.S., though “you’re not able to see that many countries,” suggesting behind-the-scenes negotiations are underway.

According to the information Trump added that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will be responsible for notifying countries of their specific tariff rates. Letters outlining the duties will be sent shortly.

“It will be very fair,” Trump noted, “but we will be telling people what they will be paying to do business in the United States.”

The announcement signals a shift back toward aggressive trade policy, potentially affecting global markets and bilateral relations, especially as the U.S. reevaluates its trade posture with key partners.
