It’s official! No more cryptocurrency and ICO advertisements are available on Twitter starting today. The announcement was made yesterday, 26th March 2018.

Starting today, Twitter does not allow the promotion of Initial Coin Offerings (ICO), pre-sales token, crypto trading platform and wallets projects. If advertisements continue to be posted on the Twitter social network, they will be automatically cleared by the site’s administrators, according to CNBC. A Twitter representative explained this measure as “ensuring the safety of the Twitter community”.

Twitter explained its measure:

We have added a new policy for Twitter Ads relating to a cryptocurrency. Under this new policy, the advertisement of Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and token sales will be prohibited globally.

As previously mentioned on, Twitter has made an announcement of the possible ban of ICO and crypto ads on 18th March 2018. They have suggested about changing their policy and restricting the ads on the platform.

According to Sky News, “Sky News understands that the new advertising policy will be implemented in two weeks and currently stands to prohibit advertisements for initial coin offerings (ICOs), token sales, and cryptocurrency wallets globally.”

Twitter has joined the Facebook and Google’s policies

The giant Twitter is now following Facebook and Google’s paths. These two were the first social platforms to ban crypto and ICO advertisements. The main reasons are to prevent users from money laundering, identity thief, abuse of power as well as to eliminate the scam accounts and contents.

Users have different opinions about this decision

Some of users seem to be excited about the decision taken by the Twitter team, some are not. Here are a few of their comments:

Most of these ads bring negative reputation to the crypto community as they are scams”, @Koertzon (

“I agree it’s a good thing, but it’s not true that every project that pays for ads is not useful. I think it’s the wrong path to follow and it wont stay like this for long. Advertisers should know their customers better (KYC) instead of just banning all crypto ads.”, @lynkzo (

Most crypto ads are scammy, so it’s a good thing”, @Dayvi (

It’s official. According to Twitter, starting today, advertisers are not capable to promote crypto and ICO projects. What’s your opinion about this decision?
