JD Vance Urges Musk to Reconcile With Trump After Public Feud

Vice President JD Vance has publicly weighed in on the escalating feud between Elon Musk and President Trump, urging the billionaire to reconsider his stance and reunite with the movement he once backed.
In an interview released Saturday on the podcast “This Past Weekend with Theo Von,” Vance described Musk’s actions as a “huge mistake” and voiced hope that reconciliation remains possible—despite Musk’s recent inflammatory remarks.
“I’m always going to be loyal to the president,” Vance said. “And I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the fold. Maybe that’s not possible now because he’s gone so nuclear, but I hope it is.”
Alliance Breakdown Follows Policy Clash
The once-powerful Trump-Musk alliance unraveled Thursday after Musk sharply criticized a tax and spending bill backed by the president. What began as a policy disagreement quickly turned personal on social media, shocking political insiders and market watchers alike.
Musk, who played a key role in electing both Trump and Vance in 2024, was later appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, a cost-cutting initiative that has since fallen short of expectations. The public rift has raised questions about the department’s future and Musk’s ongoing influence in Washington.
Trump Remains Focused, Vance Treads Carefully
While Vance expressed unwavering support for the president on social media—praising Trump as someone who has “done more than anyone in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads”—his podcast appearance marked his first direct comments on Musk since the dispute erupted.
According to a source familiar with the situation, President Trump encouraged Vance to keep his remarks measured, signaling that the administration still sees a path forward with Musk.
“The president doesn’t think that he needs to be in a blood feud with Elon Musk,” Vance added. “And I actually think if Elon chilled out a little bit, everything would be fine.”
