France to Host Emergency Crypto Security Summit Amid Kidnapping Wave

France’s Interior Ministry will hold a high-level meeting on May 16 with cryptocurrency industry leaders to address the growing threat of kidnappings targeting crypto entrepreneurs, according to a report by Le Monde.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau confirmed the initiative, stating the session will focus on raising awareness and developing security protocols across the digital asset sector. The move follows a string of recent incidents involving physical threats and abduction attempts against crypto figures in France.

“We must jointly take measures to protect them,” Retailleau said. “We’ll work directly with crypto business leaders on risk awareness and security preparedness.”

Retailleau emphasized that France’s law enforcement agencies are ready to pursue criminals beyond national borders, underscoring the severity of the threat and the government’s commitment to safeguarding innovators in the space.

The meeting is part of a broader push to reinforce security for high-profile individuals in the fast-growing digital asset industry, as physical attacks — also known as “wrench attacks” — become more common in Europe and globally.
