China Imposes Sanctions on U.S. Officials in Retaliation to Hong Kong-related Actions

China has announced sanctions against several U.S. congress members, government officials, and heads of non-governmental organizations.
According to China’s foreign ministry, these sanctions were imposed in response to “egregious behavior on Hong Kong-related issues.”
The move comes after the U.S. sanctioned six Chinese and Hong Kong officials last month. In retaliation, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun condemned the U.S. actions and emphasized that China would take strong countermeasures to protect its sovereignty.
This escalating tension between the two countries over Hong Kong-related matters underscores the ongoing friction in U.S.-China relations, particularly on issues related to Hong Kong’s autonomy and governance.
