CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger to Lead Blockchain Association as New CEO

In a major shift from regulation to advocacy, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Summer Mersinger is stepping down to become the new CEO of the Blockchain Association, Washington’s leading crypto industry lobbying group.

Mersinger’s appointment was officially announced by the Blockchain Association on Wednesday. She will assume the CEO role on June 2, following her resignation from the CFTC on May 30.

“This is a pivotal moment for crypto policy,” said Marta Belcher, president of the Blockchain Association’s board. “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Commissioner Mersinger as Blockchain Association’s new CEO. She is the ideal leader to take the organization—and the industry—to new heights.”

Mersinger joined the CFTC in March 2022 after being nominated by President Joe Biden to fill one of the commission’s Republican seats. Her transition comes as crypto policy in Washington reaches a critical inflection point, with increased calls for regulatory clarity and growing congressional interest in digital asset legislation.

As CEO, Mersinger will be tasked with steering the Blockchain Association through a complex policy environment and representing the interests of crypto-native firms before lawmakers, regulators, and the public.
