Artist Makes $1000 Worth of Bitcoin with QR Codes
Pascal Boyart, a French street artist, is combining bitcoin with art in a very practical way. The mural painter which goes by the nickname ‘PBOY’ is including in his artworks bitcoin QR codes. This enables the public to make crypto donations to the artist easily.
As history has shown us, most artists have had a hard time capitalizing on their talents or benefiting from a patron to finance them. Even with platforms such as Ulule and Patreon, many artists still struggle to make a living. But apparently, Boyart found a solution to this issue by using Bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency in the world.
The French street artist just recently became popular with the public when one of his murals turned out to be a trending subject on the Bitcoin subreddit. Many Redditors were impressed not only by his paintings, but with how he combined art and bitcoin.
Aside from putting bitcoin QR codes into his artwork, Boyart also depicts in his work themes related to cryptos and decentralization. The piece that brought Boyart popularity on Reddit was a mural painting of representing Rembrandt, the famous Dutch painter.
Even with his unbelievable talent, Rembrandt experienced a lot of financial issues during his lifetime. He was even forced to sell his house because of his incredible debts. There is an anachronistic element in the mural, as Rembrandt is portrayed reading a newspaper from our time.
While this is the piece that made Boyart known, the artist stated that he has integrated crypto motifs in prior works.
“I first included a Bitcoin QR code in my work in November 2017. I painted a street art piece of a child asking his father ‘Dad, what is money?’ And I placed a QR code at the side of my signature. I wasn’t sure if someone had done this already, but I wanted to see if people could support street artists with donations. I did it as an homage to Andreas Antonopoulos’ book The Internet of Money,” said PBOY.
So far, 0.11 bitcoin (approximately $1,000) have been donated to Boyart via the QR codes. The artist considers himself to be a crypto enthusiast noting that the art industry can benefit greatly from decentralization. Boyart believes that artists can take advantage of the new economic system which resulted from Bitcoin technology.
