Anthony Pompliano Warns Trump Against Firing Fed Chair Powell

Crypto entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano is pushing back against former U.S. President Donald Trump’s call to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, saying the move would set a troubling precedent for American financial governance.
“I do not believe that the President of the United States should come in and unilaterally fire the Fed President,” Pompliano said in a video posted to X on April 18, during his show From The Desk of Anthony Pompliano.
Disagreement Shouldn’t Justify Dismissal
Pompliano expressed concern over the motivations behind the potential firing, noting that Trump’s criticism of Powell stemmed primarily from disagreements over interest rate policy.
“Where you have a disagreement and then the firing, I think that’s not really the area that we want to go into,” he explained. “The idea of firing the Fed chairman is a very bad precedent to set this way.”
Trump had sharply criticized Powell on Truth Social a day earlier, accusing him of being too slow to lower interest rates, writing, “Powell’s termination cannot come fast enough!”
Acknowledging Fed Flaws Without Compromising Integrity
While Pompliano admitted he’s no fan of the Fed himself—calling the institution “highly politicized”—he emphasized that poor leadership shouldn’t justify improper responses.
“I still think that just because somebody else is doing something wrong doesn’t mean that you should do something wrong,” he said.
Pompliano’s comments reflect growing tensions between political figures and central bank leaders, particularly as economic policy becomes a focal point ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
