Alibaba Stock Faces Sharp Pullback, But Wall Street Still Sees Strong Upside

Alibaba took a sharp hit in April, with its stock plunging over 25% in a single week following the Liberation Day announcement—a signal of how geopolitical developments continue to rattle Chinese equities.

Although much attention remains on the U.S. side of the trade war, it’s increasingly evident that the impact cuts both ways.

Despite the drop, most Wall Street analysts are holding their ground. Forecasts suggest Alibaba could rebound nearly 38% over the next 12 months, with a consensus price target of $164.77. The most optimistic outlook even places the stock as high as $194.33, based on data from TradingView as of May 1.

Analyst sentiment remains largely intact. Mizuho reaffirmed its $170 target and ‘buy’ rating in late March, and Citi made only a minor downward revision in April—reducing its forecast from $170 to $169 while maintaining a bullish view.

Though Alibaba’s stock closed at $120.53—down from its 2025 high of $147.57—it remains up more than 42% year-to-date. The price has shown a consistent upward trend since touching a 30-day low of $99.37 on April 7.

Of the 58 analysts tracked by TradingView, 54 currently rate Alibaba a ‘buy’ or ‘strong buy.’ Only one considers it a ‘strong sell,’ while three suggest a ‘hold.’ Even with some cautious voices emerging—one projecting a potential dip to $94.55—most see the current volatility as temporary.

As Alibaba continues to recover, all eyes are on whether broader market conditions and trade policy shifts will allow that momentum to build—or stall it in its tracks.
